As March arrives, bringing longer days and (hopefully!) a little more sunshine, it’s the perfect time to shake off the winter blues and refresh our homes. There’s something about the start of spring that makes us want to open the windows, let in fresh air, and create space for new beginnings.
If you’ve been feeling weighed down by clutter, this is your sign to start small and welcome a lighter, brighter season ahead. In this blog, I’m sharing some simple ways to begin, including three things to declutter this month to help you feel more organised and in control.
Why Spring is the Perfect Time to Declutter
After months of hibernation mode (and maybe accumulating a few too many ‘just in case’ items), spring is the natural time to reset. We instinctively start tidying and organising, but a real declutter can make an even bigger difference—both physically and mentally.
Clearing out what we no longer need can:
✅ Reduce stress and overwhelm
✅ Make our homes easier to clean and maintain
✅ Help us feel lighter, more in control, and ready for a fresh season
And remember, decluttering isn’t about throwing everything away—it’s about keeping what serves you and letting go of what doesn’t.
Three Things to Declutter in March
If you’re not sure where to start, here are three key areas to tackle this month:
1️⃣ Winter Coats, Hats & Scarves
As we transition into spring, it’s a great time to go through your winter wardrobe. Ask yourself:
- Did I actually wear this coat/scarf/gloves this winter?
- Does it still fit and make me feel good?
- Would someone else benefit from it more than I do?
If you have items you didn’t reach for, consider donating them to charity.
2️⃣ Expired Toiletries & Makeup
Skincare, makeup, and toiletries all have expiry dates—yet it’s easy to forget! Check your bathroom cabinets and makeup bag for:
- Old mascaras and eyeliners (these should be replaced every few months)
- Skincare that has changed smell or texture
- Half-used hotel minis or products you never really liked
Clearing these out will free up space and ensure you’re only using products that are safe and effective.
3️⃣ Paper Clutter & Junk Mail
We all have that pile of post, receipts, or old magazines lurking somewhere. Set aside some time to:
- Shred and recycle anything you don’t need
- File away important documents
- Opt for paperless billing where possible to reduce future clutter
Decluttering paper can feel incredibly satisfying, and it makes such a difference to your space!
